Bengkulu, 18-21 December 2019— Security protocols are a means for overcoming the increase in threats to environmental defenders. In addition to building security awareness, the implementation of protocols will prevent, or at least minimize threats to environmental defenders.
Hence, Auriga Nusantara in cooperation with WALHI Bengkulu held a consultation on security protocols for environmental defenders in the Sumatra region. Civil society groups from every province in Sumatra were invited to the event.
During the consultation, Auriga presented a pre-prepared preliminary draft of security protocols. Input from participants was welcomed for perfecting the draft. Similar consultations would then be held in other regions until security protocols were designed as a reference/guide for environmental defenders.
